Hello Reader, If you've received this email, it's because at some point we've worked together, you've enquired about my services, or you've subscribed to receive occasional updates from me. This isn't a personal email, but simply an occasional newsletter sharing updates and psychological reflections that I hope you'll find interesting. It's been quite some time since I last wrote... Over the past year I've deliberately stepped back from regular newsletters because I wanted to focus my energy on the work itself. Looking back, it's been one of the busiest and most rewarding periods of my career. Alongside continuing to work with psychotherapy and executive coaching clients from around the world, I've also spent a great deal of time developing a new area of specialist practice that has become increasingly important to me. One thing I've noticed over recent years is how many thoughtful, intelligent and highly capable adults quietly wonder whether there might be another explanation for why certain aspects of life have always felt more effortful than they seem to for other people. Sometimes the answer is burnout. Sometimes it's screen addiction. Sometimes it's years of living under chronic stress. And sometimes there's another piece of the puzzle... Part of this journey has also been personal. Receiving my own late autism diagnosis gave me a much deeper appreciation of how easily people can spend decades adapting, masking and believing they're simply "too sensitive", "too intense", or somehow getting life wrong. It didn't replace my professional understanding. It deepened it. Thirty years of clinical practice had already taught me that good psychology isn't about labels. My own experience simply reinforced something I've long believed: people make meaningful changes when they understand themselves with greater clarity and compassion. That belief has led me to develop a new specialist neurodevelopmental assessment service for adults through The Mind Institute. Rather than relying on a brief checklist, I've spent the past year designing an in-depth assessment process that takes the time to understand the whole person, their developmental history, strengths, challenges and lived experience. I'll share more about that over the next couple of emails. Whether neurodevelopmental assessment is relevant to you or not, I hope you'll find the reflections useful. My aim is the same as it has always been: to share ideas that help people better understand themselves and those around them. It's good to be writing to you again. Warmly, Matt P.S. Hello Reader, Hope you're enjoying the summer! I hope you're enjoying the summer. As I write this, I'm spending a little time exploring Shanghai before returning to Vienna. Over the past couple of weeks, I've written about how easy it is for people to spend years adapting to life without ever really understanding themselves. That conviction is what led me to develop an Adult Neurodivergence Assessment at The Mind Institute. It wasn't because I believed existing assessments were necessarily...
Hello Reader, Last week I mentioned that one of the reasons I've become increasingly interested in neurodevelopmental assessment is that so many people spend years trying to understand themselves through the wrong lens. That thought has stayed with me. Over the years I've worked with literally thousands of people from very different backgrounds. Executives, entrepreneurs, parents, healthcare professionals, teachers, diplomats and students. Although their lives have often looked very different...
